Leverage Sideblog, ho

@what---i-dated-a / what---i-dated-a.tumblr.com

sideblog of mj--spooks. you may think my main is now safe from leverage, but no. there will always be more leverage.

Just had a thought and guys I really need us (Leverage fans) to come together in 2028 and make the most of the fact that The Ides of March will fall on a No Stabbing Wednesday.

I wanna see a BUNCH of this

Y'all can even grab it now as a freebie. Stick it in the queue. If I see this even once I'll be tickled pink.

I know it's normally rude/frowned upon but please please steal and repost it so I can be genuinely surprised and delighted when it comes across my dash without my notifications alerting me to a reblog. I give you permission.

I’ve had a different “no stabbing Wednesday” post queued for this purpose for years!

I look forward to forgetting about it and then being surprised when I hopefully see it 🤣

You seat a table of three for breakfast and the woman says hmm yes I will have a loaded waffle tower please and you say ma'am that's a children's item and she says so and you say okay fine and the man who brought a whole laptop in says ah, I will have what the lady is having and an orange soda and you say for breakfast and he says of course and then the guy who is clearly a criminal says what kind of bread do you use for your French toast and you say ... White and he says can I sub brioche and you say we don't have brioche and he sighs and says I'll get the rooty tooty... Whatever the cowboy omelette and the other two start razzing him about being a cowboy and when you come to check up on them the woman is playing airplane with the loaded waffle tower trying to get the criminal to eat it and they tip $200 and your watch has been replaced with a better watch

What's a con you'd like to see in the new season?

So I have not kept up with Redemption on account of having a toddler, meaning full disclosure, I don't know what they did and didn't do in s2. But.

I think recently I've really developed nostalgia for old school holiday episodes. I know s1 did the haunting thing and the og show had a Christmas episode and I'd like more of that, please. My tabletop group did an episode where a haunted house was being used to cover up an old school "dig a tunnel into a bank vault" caper and like. Loved that. Love me a silly goofy caper. Do a silly goofy caper job set at something like Halloween Horror Nights. They did a Ren Faire they can do a haunted park!

Honestly a lot of my ideas for cons circle back to "Jobs my GM came up w for us" my GM is very very clever and has good ideas. We did our haunted house job before Redemption premiered and when they did the haunted episode we all joked they'd stolen it from us. I'd be curious to see how the show adapted other things similar to what we did. I'm also not good at this sort of writing so my wants are less about the meat and more about the aesthetic, yaknow? Idc what the con or opponent is, I just wanna see Parker cackling at Harry as he jumps 10 feet in the air bc a teenager in a mask growled at him.

if you had to re-write a season 5 episode as the pilot, which episode would you pick and how would you do it?

I don't really have a good answer for this, unfortunately. One thing I think the show is really good at is making sure that the episodes and the characters are in line with their development across the show. You'd have to fundamentally change how an episode works at its core and the way the team functions as a team within it to move it from the end of the run to the pilot. Coupled with the fact that I think the Leverage pilot is one of the best television pilots of all time as it is, and I just can't choose another episode to replace it with.

But like. For a shitposty answer.

The Long Goodbye Job, presented exactly as is, but at the end there's a freeze frame and a Nate voice over that says "Yeah, that's me. I bet you're wondering how I got here. The answer... might surprise you."

Cue opening theme.

Then the rest of the show plays as normal. Except early Parker is probably written slightly better bc they have a better grasp of her character from having already written The Long Goodbye Job dndnfjsnrnfnakdkfnsn

I really hope young folks just discovering Leverage understand that in 2008 a Tesla meant basically the opposite of what it means in 2025. They were so exciting. We were so hopeful.

I was showing it to my roommate for the first time in 2023, and she was like "ooof, that aged badly".

Okay here’s some more context for folks:

Yes, the Tesla Roadster Sportscar was the first Tesla car. That was the whole exciting thing about Tesla: not only were they making an electric car, they were making an electric SPORTSCAR. Meaning they were making the idea of electric cars (and by extension renewable energy in general) COOL. Cool and exclusive and something rich people would want to get in on, not something for fringe eco nerds, so that then they would eventually have the funds and support to roll out electric cars that everyone could use. That’s why Tesla was cool. That’s why the joke in the show is “well it’s an electric car” — you expect something dinky, cause other electric cars were not powerful or cool— and then he rolls up with the super cool exciting Tesla sportscar.

And while it’s fascinating that Elon took over right at this time (Edit: apparently I reblogged the wrong chain, we talked about this on a different reblog) that does not mean that that perception changed instantly. People didn’t immediately know that he was bad news, the company did not immediately go to shit. That was a very gradual thing. It’s possible the showrunners were ahead of the curve and wanted to distance themselves from it, but I always assumed the reason the car only showed up once was much simpler: They were EXPENSIVE.

Leverage has done this thing to my brain where I can't believe the actors in any other role to be real. I realised Beth was in Criminal Minds as Reid's gf who they didn't meet the whole episode and he conversed with only over the internet and then she died tragically right before they could save her and I was like of COURSE Sophie must've run the con this time coz who else would do such an elaborate death scene. I saw Aldis Hodge as a DC character and I was like oh Hardison is really playing with fire I mean using technology to spoof being a superhero among actual supers? What job are they even pulling this time? I saw Christian in SPN and went oh so they're stealing something occult back oh that's nice. Like. Every character they've ever played and will ever play could be their leverage character undercover pulling a con
