Everyone else is pretty much as they are about her, Rose and Em staying out of the decision making, Jasper struggling with his appetite.
So Bella asks Esme one day.
They have a long talk about their human lives. Bella opens up about what it was like with Renee, Esme opens up about her loss. They find a kinship in each other where they have the chance to nurture a relationship unlike any others they have.
Esme can take part in the creation of her child in a way she couldn’t with the others, they coming to her already developed. And Bella could take agency while still being looked after and cared for by a maternal figure.

Instantly obsessed with the idea that other characters were actually supposed to be the heroes and/or were and we just didn't get that information because this was Bella's story right now and she was narrating it.
Like in the background all these things were happening that were trying to get Leah to accept her place as the Main Character and go on an adventure and everyone else was just like "ugh shut up Leah" and she has to be like "okay, I'll save the world, but first I gotta keep this dumbass Jacob's obsessed with alive for some reason."
Alice literally can see the future and predicted her mother's murder and was locked in asylum and the bad guy from the first book was also her personal bad guy which she didn't know until just then but all Alice gets to do is like, pick out Bella's prom dress and plan her wedding. Love the idea that Alice is having visions of her own great adventure and Chosen One story and is like "yeah yeah I'll get to it, but first I gotta get my brother married."
Or that like, Carlisle is living the epilogue of his grand adventure and Bella's just like "oh Edward's dad is so handsome and nice," having no idea he's already lived the Hero's Journey or the equivalent and THAT's why all these people show up to witness and potentially die for him. They're all from his story that she has never really asked about.
And which of Bella's human friends secretly has some psychic power that would manifest if they became a vampire? Maybe when Eleazar came to town for the wedding or to witness for Renesmee he happened to pick up that Mike Newton had this incredible power that would be unleashed if he were vampirized and the rumor got around the vampire gathering and now there's this shadow war of who is going to bite Mike and harness his power for their coven.
