minghao x reader genre: angst word count: 5.4K

a/n: I wanted to write angst and I’m not sure how Minghao ended up being the poor soul involved in it but here we are. Minghao and his ex-partner are returning their belongings to each other after a breakup and they finally speak about what’s been going on in their relationship. It also switches between reader’s pov and Minghao’s. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy and thanks for reading :))

Neither of you were sure why you were doing this. It wasn’t a good idea. Your emotions were too raw. You missed him. And just like so often with Minghao these days, you didn’t know where he stood. You weren’t sure if the feelings of longing were reciprocated. He was just always so controlled, whereas you were led by your emotions, uncontrolled and overpowering.

Standing in front of the door to his apartment, your fist lowering after having just knocked, you were brought back to the last time you found yourself in this hallway. It was just a month ago when Minghao stood in front of you in the entryway of his apartment, his back pressed to one side of the doorframe with his head slung low.

“I don’t want to keep fighting with you,” he told you, shaking his head. “I don’t like hurting you.”

“You don’t hurt me. We just-can’t seem to communicate anymore,” you defended him against himself.

Perhaps with Minghao, things had simply run their course. Maybe you ran out of time. The relationship had moved quickly from the start, all passion and heat as though you were racing to some sort of finish line. It started with tumbles in the sheets before you accidentally fell into romance and love. That wasn’t to say that getting inside Minghao’s mind was an easy task. The man was guarded, careful, mysterious. It took persistence and consistency, devotion and curiosity to inch your way into his world. Neither of you were accustomed to moving so quickly, but especially Minghao. You were part of his life before you ever made it fully into his mind. But you made it, and it was beautiful. He was beautiful.
