Finnish technology and networking firm Nokia announced on Thursday that it has completed retrenchment discussions and that 280 of its employees in Finland would lose their jobs.

The company announced in January that it planned to reduce its payroll, with a view to cutting up to 350 jobs at all of its operations in Finland, with the exception of its production plant in the western city of Oulu.

The cuts are related to the company's broader plans announced in October to save some 700 million euros by the end of 2020.

Nokia said it is offering affected employees the opportunity to participate in a support programme to help them find new jobs, either within the company or, for example in starting their own businesses.
