The defence ministry has said that it will begin trialling voluntary shared accommodation for male conscripts and female military service volunteers.
The ministry will roll out the fixed-term experiment at the beginning of next year in some barracks.
According to defence military command, a survey of military conscripts revealed that women said they feel excluded from the units when they occupy separate accommodation.
The results of the survey suggested that shared dormitories would improve information flows and would make the use of space more effective.
Next year’s trial will focus on field exercise and naval units.
In September defence command proposed to the defence ministry a pilot of the integrated housing in some barracks starting in 2020.
On Friday, the defence minister announced that officials had begun preparing new legislation to facilitate the start of the pilot.
