The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) has warned that heavy snowfall on Saturday and into Sunday will lead to hazardous driving conditions in the south and east of the country.
Between 5 and 10 centimetres of snow is expected in some areas, according to FMI meteorologist Ville Siiskonen, as a low pressure front moves across the country from the east.
"Snowfall is expected in much of the eastern part of the country and in the area between Central Finland and Uusimaa," Siiskonen said, adding that road conditions are expected to be especially poor in the regions of Kymenlaakso and South Karelia.
Motorists are also advised to take special care on roads elsewhere in eastern Finland, from North Karelia to Central Finland and the region of Kanta-Häme, the FMI added.
Temperatures in the south and east will range from between zero to minus five degrees Celsius, which may add to the challenging conditions.
"In cloudy snowy weather, temperatures do not drop very low, but it will still be a little frosty," Siiskonen added.
