Police investigate deadly fire in Salo

The blaze left two people dead and another injured.

Two elderly people died in an apartment fire on Sunday morning in the southwestern city of Salo. One was a man born in 1939 and the other a woman born in 1940. Another person was injured.

Rescue services were alerted to the blaze shortly before 10am. Around 10 rescue squad units responded to the fire.

By the time they arrived, the flat on the top floor was engulfed in flame. The fire was extinguished by noon.

The other residents of the four-storey block of flats were evacuated. The building is on Kontionkuja in the Pahkavuori district.

The Southwest Finland Police Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
