The offices of the Left Alliance party in the city of Oulu have been vandalised with swastika graffiti, according to a report by regional newspaper Kaleva.
The party’s executive director Jaakko Alavuotunki told Yle that far-right stickers were also glued to the front of the office. He also said that he filed a criminal report with the police as soon as he arrived at the office on Wednesday morning.
In a tweet that included photographs of the graffiti, Alavuotunki wrote that the graffiti has since been removed.
"It’s like this at the Oulu office today. Pictures taken, crime report made and the pathetic drawings have been removed with turpentine from the doors. Security will be intensified, so if this happens again, there will be video footage of the culprits in the future," he wrote.
Story continues after the tweet.
The incident follows the vandalisation of the Green Party office in the city at the weekend, when swastikas and English-language threats were spray-painted onto the office’s doors and windows.
Alavuotunki said he hopes that all political parties will jointly condemn this kind of activity.
"It would be good for the parties now to make sure that there is no far-right thinking within their ranks. The hope would be that we could hold the spring municipal elections peacefully and properly," he said, adding that a surveillance camera will now be installed on the site of the Left Alliance office.
