Government talks on a framework for next year's state budget--which are now into their third day--will not be completed on Friday.
"We will continue negotiations between the five coalition partners over the weekend," Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) wrote on Twitter.
Minister of Justice and leader of the Swedish People's Party Anna-Maja Henriksson had indicated earlier in the afternoon that the negotiations could take another few days.
Daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported on Friday morning that disagreements between the Centre Party and its left-wing coalition partners could lead to the collapse of the government. Measures to raise Finland's employment rate are believed to be at the centre of the dispute.
News agency STT reported that the Centre Party's board will hold a meeting on Friday evening, and has also arranged party council meetings for Saturday and Sunday. This will complicate the party leadership's availability to continue talks over the weekend, STT said.
Centre Party chair Annika Saarikko told the media that the prime minister will announce when negotiations can continue.
"When the invitation comes, we will be ready to continue discussions at the table again," Saarikko said.
According to STT, the Left Alliance and the Prime Minister's Social Democratic Party are also planning to hold separate party meetings on Friday evening.
