50 people died in road traffic accidents in Finland during the first three months of this year, according to figures published Thursday by Statistics Finland. This was 17 fewer deaths than for the same period of last year.
Also, 825 road traffic injuries were recorded January – April, which was 371 fewer than during the same months of 2020.
According to preliminary data, 16 people died and 225 were injured in road traffic accidents in April. Nine of those who died in April were traveling by car, one in a truck, three on foot and two on bicycles.
In addition, one other, unclassified road death was registered. Of the fatalities, 11 were men and five were women.
In April, citing road safety concerns the Transport Ministry said that young drivers could face tougher licence requirements starting sometime next year.
