Finland's state-owned gambling monopoly Veikkaus has announced the beginning of co-determination talks with staff representatives which may affect up to 830 employees.
The company said in a press release that a maximum of 200 people may lose their jobs as a result of the negotiations, and the terms and conditions of employment of a further 330 workers may change significantly.
Veikkaus said the move is necessary due to changes in the company's operating environment and business volumes over recent years, but it will strive to offer new positions in different parts of the company to employees facing lay-offs.
"One concrete example is Casino Tampere, which will open in December, and which will require about 50 more workers to create a completely new type of casino," Veikkaus' Director of Channels and Sales Jari Heino said in the firm's press release.
