Some 1,206 kids in Finland do not have a place to study this autumn, after they left basic schooling in the summer.

That means around two percent of those school leavers secured a place at an Upper Secondary or vocational school this autumn.

The government has extended the age of compulsory schooling to 18, meaning that these teenagers must be found somewhere to study.

Their schools were responsible for that search up to the end of August, but that duty has now passed to the young people's municipalities of residence.
