This summer's strawberry crop is now at its peak and the quality of the berries is good, says the Finnish Association of Fruit and Berry Growers.
Last year, the harvest was disappointing, but according to the association, strawberries are back on track for a promising crop this year.
The association said that the cool weather early in the summer gave indications of a later-than-normal harvest season. However, a warm spell of weather from Midsummer onwards pushed the peak strawberry season back to its normal schedule during the first two weeks of July.
The association recommended that those freezing strawberries for the winter should do so in the next few days. The harvests that will be ready in the future will be smaller, but the late varieties will still be ready until September.
