Russia has set up a mobile military conscription checkpoint near the Finnish border, according to Russian media and the messaging platform Telegram.
A photo posted on the platform appeared to show a mobile conscription checkpoint parked in Torfyanovka, Russia, a border crossing zone leading to Southwest Finland's international crossing in Vaalimaa.
A Russian news outlet, 47 News, reported on Wednesday that local administrators in Vyborg confirmed that a checkpoint for processing conscripts had been set up near the Finnish border. The outlet noted that the regional military registration and enlistment office also confirmed the situation in Torfyanovka.
Citing eyewitness accounts, 47 News said the mobile facility started operating in Torfyanovka on Tuesday.
Yle approached people crossing into Finland at the Vaalimaa crossing on Wednesday afternoon, asking whether they had seen the vehicle.
Four of those queried confirmed that it was there, while two others travelling separately said it was about one kilometre away from the Torfyanovka border crossing. Meanwhile, a few others said they had not seen it.
The Southeastern Border Guard told Yle on Wednesday afternoon they had no information about the situation.
Citing a government information portal, news agency AFP reported on Wednesday that Moscow is not issuing passports to Russians mobilised by the army, "as fears of travel restrictions rise and tens of thousands flee the country."
