Several violations and deficiencies were discovered in Helsinki's taxi fleet during a crackdown on Friday, police reported. In a series of inspections performed by police and other authorities, 80 taxis were checked and 37 did not meet standards.

Fifteen taxis did not display the name of the licence holder or driver, and more than 20 taxis either did not display a logbook or had incomplete logbooks. There were shortcomings in the display of fare information for 9 of the inspected taxis.

In addition, a few taxis did not have the proper documentation to operate a taxi, while one was operating without a licence. The police also found a single unpaid vehicle tax.

Despite the failures, police said no road safety risk was detected.

Earlier this week, Traficom revoked the permits of nearly 2,000 taxi drivers over insufficient qualifications and a lack of business identifiers.
