The council of the Transport Workers’ Union AKT will meet next Thursday to consider the position of the union’s chair, Timo Räty. The union’s board decided on Thursday to call an extraordinary meeting of the union’s council to consider the matter.

The council meeting has to be called if more than one third of its members demand it. In practice, that means 14 people.
During the AKT board’s meeting, a crowd of rank and file members gathered in the Hakaniemi market square to show their support for the union’s former communications chief Hilkka Ahde, who complained about bullying at the union last summer. Her subsequent dismissal fueled the current furore.
