Inflation Drops for the First Time in Five Years

For the first time in nearly five years, inflation declined in Finland. Consumer prices dropped by one-tenth of a percent in June, according to Statistics Finland.

The decline from June 2008 is mostly due to lower interest rates and cheaper fuel prices. In addition, declines were seen in the price tags of used cars and telephone calls.

On the flip side, the cost of food, alcohol, rent, health care, and dining out all increased.

Inflation hasn't declined since the spring of 2004, when the alcohol tax was lowered.
