Government Talks to Begin Discussing Figures

Government negotiations enter their twelfth day on Tuesday, with meetings of the various working groups and the steering group, which is composed of the six party leaders. The most important discussions will focus on economic policy.

Negotiations on economic policy between the two biggest parties in the talks, the SDP and NCP, ended on Monday without a conclusion. Despite this, a package of figures and estimates is being discussed on Tuesday, and it could form the basis of the new government’s economic policy.

The economic policy group is considering a report in which NCP MP Kimmo Sasi presented a general view of Finland’s economic situation, along with proposals on taxation and spending.

The divide between the two biggest parties has been quite large, which suggests that when actual numbers are discussed, the talks could descend into a standoff.
