This year’s Helsinki Pride festival is an expanded celebration. The goal of the event is to increase openness and make diversity more valued in society. A week of events are planned, culminating in a parade in the capital on Saturday.

A Helsinki Pride press release claims that this year’s festival is to be ‘bigger than ever before’. Finland’s biggest event for sexual minorities was kicked off by Helsinki mayor Jussi Pajunen on Monday at the statue of the three blacksmiths in Helsinki.

Events planned for this week include concerts, parties and panel discussions. Saturday’s parade will set out from Helsinki’s Senate Square to Kaisaniemi park.

The events are organised by the Helsinki district of Seta, Finland’s sexual minorities association.
