The Helsinki District Court freed the woman as there were insufficient grounds for her detention. Police will meanwhile continue to investigate the woman's activities, says Kaj-Erik Björkqvist of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The court, however, placed the 28-year-old woman under a travel ban, as it considered her a flight risk.
The NBI is demanding that the male suspect be kept under lock and key. Both suspects are Somali citizens living in Finland.
Police have been investigating the case since last spring. Officials have until December 15 to formally charge the suspects.
New terrorist suspect in police cross hairs?
Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation may be casting its net wider in ongoing investigations of suspected links to terrorist activity in Finland. According to information received by YLE, police may be looking into the activities of an additional individual in its investigations.
Police sources have not confirmed the information about a third suspect but have conducted some investigations.
“This week we’ve done a home search and have attempted to reach one individual, but it was not fruitful,” said Kaj Björkvist, lead investigator with the NBI.
He did not confirm whether the individual in question was a new suspect.
“That remains to be seen,” he continued.
