Staff walkout closes Nordea offices Friday

Employees of the Nordea financial services group are carrying out a work stoppage on Friday to protest the bank's plans to implement a lock-out later this month. All Nordea offices are affected.

Nordea says that the job action will also disrupt telephone services, but online banking and ATM cash withdrawals should operate as usual. Nordea says it will publish news related to the walkout on its website.

The Federation of Finnish Financial Services, which represents employers in the sector, has announced a lock-out scheduled for the 25th of this month if a new agreement on salaries and conditions is not reached with unions before then.

During a lock-out, employers refuse to allow employees to come to work until they accept the employer's terms.

A strike warning by banking sector employees has been issued for November 23, but it does not affect those working at Nordea.
