Heikki Vartiainen of Finland’s Criminal Sanctions Agency said officials had reason to suspect the nurse was suicidal and had tried to prevent her from harming herself. Vartiainen was unable to say how she had been able to commit suicide.
Earlier this month, the Turku Appeals Court upheld the life sentence handed down by the Tampere District Court last May. The nurse was also found guilty of attempted murder of an eight-month-old baby.
She had denied all the charges.
