Halonen held talks with her Estonian counterpart Toomas Hendrik Ilves in Tallinn on Tuesday morning. Regarding Greece, they both said that 'the fire had to be extinguished' to prevent the phenomenon from spreading elsewhere in Europe. Halonen is on a two-day state visit to Estonia, her first since Ilves took office in 2006.
She is accompanied by her husband as well as Minister of Education Henna Virkkunen and others.
Halonen also met with Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, who assured her of Estonia's readiness to join the euro zone from the beginning of next year.
"The government has the firm aim of continuing with sustainable budgetary policy and our aim is to once again achieve a government sector budget with a surplus," Ansip said during a working lunch with the Finnish president.
After the lunch Halonen addressed the Estonian Parliament and met with Speaker Ene Ergma.
The agenda also included visits Tallinn's Children's Literature Centre and Lahemaa national park, north-east of the capital.
