Ruisrock Celebrates Four Decades

Celebrating four decades of keeping Finnish rock music lovers happy, the country’s oldest rock festival, Ruisrock, attracted as many as 30,000 people on Saturday. Some 21,000 rock fans gathered on Friday in Turku’s Ruissalo Park for Europe’s second-oldest rock festival.

Ruisrock kicked off this year with veteran blues rockers Canned Heat, who first appeared at the festival back in 1971 in front of about 1,000 enthusiastic listeners.

This year guitarists Ozzy Osborne and Billy Talent were among the star foreign attractions, along with former Guns ‘N’ Roses guitarist Slash who performed on Sunday.

A wide variety of Finnish artists were on the bill including Don Huonot, Lauri Tähkä & Elonkerjuu, Disco Ensemble and PMMP.
