Myllykoski Paper to Shed 140 Jobs

Myllykoski Paper is to start consultative talks on the cuts of 140 jobs at its mill in Kouvola. The aim is to achieve an annual improvement in income of around 30 million euros.

Efficiency and profitability enhancements are being sought in maintenance, logistics, purchasing, sales and organisational structure sectors.

Currently Myllykoski Paper which manufactures magazine and catalogue grade papers, employs 450 people.

Company CEO, Juha Ebeling, points the finger of blame at increased raw material and energy costs.

The family-owned Myllykoski concern employs around 2,700 persons. Production plants are also located in Germany and the United States.

Myllykoski has been in ownership-related discussions with paper giant UPM during the autumn. To date, UPM has not commented on the progress of talks.
