US-Finland Defense Cooperation Office Opens in Helsinki

The United States Department of Defense has opened an office of defense cooperation (ODC) in Helsinki. The office is to promote cooperation in defense equipment purchases by the Finnish Ministry of Defence and the U.S. Department of Defense.

The office, located at the Finnish Ministry of Defence, coordinates deals such as upgrading F-18 Hornet fighters. The office will also assist U.S. and Finnish defence companies with exports.

Officials at Finland's Ministry of Defence say the office will help the Finnish defence industry export equipment to the United States.

Similar offices are already operating in 34 European countries including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France and Britain. The office is under the authority of U.S. Ambassador to Finland Barbara Barrett.
