Sampo to Halt Party Donations

The CEO of the Sampo financial group, Kari Stadigh, says the company will halt all contributions to political parties for now. During the era of his predecessor, Björn Wahlroos, Sampo gave generous support to the conservative National Coalition Party (NCP).

"I am a cautious person and with the general debate about this being what it is, it my intention to discontinue party funding. I do not consider it to be in Sampo's interest -- but I reserve the right to change my mind later," says Stadigh.

He adds that party contributions could be possible if they take place completely openly. Stadigh says that supporting the NCP's values is a natural choice. In recent years, the Sampo group has donated at least 125,000 euros to the NCP.

Wahlroos was the Sampo Group's CEO from 2001 until April of this year.
