Finnair Wins British Public Sector Contract

The Finnish airline Finnair has come out ahead in a bid for tenders, winning a major flight contract for Britain’s public sector. British civil servants flying between London and Osaka, and between Manchester and Helsinki, will use Finnair through 2011.

The contract includes a renewal option in 2012.

This is the first time that Finnair has won such a bidding competition in Britain. The development is seen as a significant victory for Finnair’s Asian strategy.

“The significant factor was that the departments of the British government and the public sector will achieve savings of 24 percent on its flights with Finnair,” says Tomi Hänninen, of Finnair sales in the UK.

Earlier this month Finnair announced a major restructuring, with an estimated reduction of 200 jobs after announcing significant losses.
