Earlier a memorial service was held in the Mannerheim Square in Helsinki, followed by wreath-laying at Hietaniemi cemetery.

The day to remember fallen soldiers takes place each year on the twenty-seventh of April and commemorates the end of hostilities in Lapland at the end of World War Two.

Veterans’ Day has been celebrated since 1987.
