Audiences have felt the pull of chamber music in Kuhmo this year. Finland’s largest chamber music festival reported record profits from ticket sales, which yielded over half a million euros. On Friday, it was estimated that nearly 37,000 listeners had attended the festival.

The Kuhmo festival also hosted a record number of 197 artists this year. Among them was the world-renowned Kronos Quartet, known for its pioneering performances of new music.

No less than 12 of the festival’s concerts were sold out.

In addition to the north-eastern City of Kuhmo, festival concerts were heard in Iisalmi, Lentiira, Viiksimo and Vuokatti.

Next summer the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival will be held for the 44th time. The number of concerts is expected to remain the same in 2013 as this year.
