The police are now looking into whether fake doctor Esa Laiho caused serious health problems to any of his patients.

Laiho worked as an intern and as a physician for almost ten years between 2001 and 2011. During this time, he worked at hospice and elderly care units, among other duties. Laiho also cared for younger patients.

Laiho has been previously suspected of aggravated fraud and forgery, and the police are considering charges in relation to the earlier investigation. Laiho himself denies all criminal charges.

It is likely he will also deny causing harm to patients in the new investigation.

In earlier investigations, the police and health authorities failed to turn up evidence that the treatment Laiho gave patients constituted malpractice.
