Tampere nurses win pay dispute

Tampere city council is to pay more than 5 million euros in compensation to nurses who have been underpaid since 2008.

The Union of Health and Social Care professionals, Tehy, had demanded extra pay commensurate with additional duties and specialities. A December ruling from the Labour Court found in the union's favour.

The two sides have now agreed that compensation will be paid to current employees by the end of May, with some nurses due thousands of euros in back-dated pay. Payments will total around 5.2 million euros, and the agreement will cost Tampere around a million euros per year in additional personnel costs.
