Corporate tax cut pleases Swedish FinMin

The Swedish Finance Minister has praised Finland's move to reduce corporation tax rates to 20 percent. Speaking to Yle, Anders Borg said that low business taxes in neighbouring countries were good for the whole Nordic region.

According to Borg, the move to lower Finnish corporation tax does not disadvantage Sweden. Instead, he believes the region as a whole is competing against lower-tax countries like Cyprus and Ireland. In Borg’s opinion, Finland’s decision complements that made by the Swedish government in January to lower corporation taxes to 22 percent.

"We did not do it to compete with Sweden or Denmark, but Ireland and Cyprus-type of countries who have very low business taxes," said Borg.
