Finnish troops take rocket fire at Afghan training centre

The Finnish Defence Forces report that a training centre where Finnish peacekeeping troops are instructing Afghan police trainees has come under fire several times in the past week. The latest attack was seen on Tuesday.

The training centre in Wardak province was hit by rocket fire last Wednesday, on Sunday, and again on Tuesday. ISAF air support reacted immediately to the strikes.

Defence Forces officials in Helsinki said that none of the Finnish peacekeepers working at the training centre were injured and operations have carried on as normal.

Finnish troops are based at the centre as trainers and advisors.

A report of last week’s attacks was not released until Tuesday, a delay that the Defence Forces attributed to human error.
