Ville Kivimäki wins Tieto-Finlandia Prize

Finland's top nonfiction book award, the 30,000-euro Tieto-Finlandia Prize was awarded to Ville Kivimäki. His book Broken Minds explores the mental distress suffered by Finnish soldiers and veterans as a result of the Second World War.

The Tieto-Finlandia nonfiction prize has been won by historian Ville Kivimäki for his book Murtuneet mielet. Taistelu suomalaissotilaiden hermoista 1939-1945 (Broken Minds). It examines the psychological traumas that the Second World War inflicted on Finnish soldiers and veterans.

The director of the Helsinki Art Museum, Maija Tanninen-Mattila, chose the winner of the 30,000-euro prize. She said the book had made her re-think the war.
