VR Track lockout of electric workers starts

VR Track, which looks after the track maintenance of State Railways VR, has started a lock-out. In practice, this means that workers’ pay will be suspended for three weeks.

The three-week lock-out targets electricians, and was decided by the Finnish Service Sector Employers’ Union PALTA. The action, which may cause train cancellations, comes after failed collective agreement negotiations with the National Conciliator.

Service sector employers hope to put an end to strikes by electricians, who want to be included in the Electrical Workers’ collective agreement instead of a railway sector agreement.

Branch 177 of the Finnish Electrical Workers’ Union has arranged several labour strikes throughout the summer.
