US planes land at Helsinki-Vantaa ahead of Obama’s Tallinn trip

Yle sources report that Air Force Two has landed at Helsinki-Vantaa airport ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit to Estonia this week. Planes using the Air Force Two Call sign carry the Vice President of the United States, but can also serve as support planes for the US government.

The US President Barack Obama’s visit to Estonia has brought an unusual visitor to Helsinki. A plane named Air Force Two, which is the call sign used by the US Vice President, landed in Finland on Tuesday along with a Hercules transport plane.

The US embassy confirmed that two planes related to Obama’s visit were at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The planes are US government aircraft.

Estonia has previously announced that it is tightening vigilance at its borders ahead of the visit. Those visiting on ferries from Finland, and any other Estonian border, will need official photo ID. Driving licenses are not acceptable, but passports and official ID cards issued by the police will be sufficient.
