VR Track commences labour negotiations - 250 foremen and managers affected

State-owned rail services provider VR announced on Monday that its VR Track branch will begin co-determination talks with its staff in association with a re-organisation of the company. The railway construction and maintenance branch says talks will seek to avoid lay-offs in preference of other options.

VR Track, the branch of VR responsible for railway construction and maintenance, announced on Monday that it will begin talks targeting the future of 250 foremen and senior managers. A planned re-organisation of the company would do away with all manager-level staff in future.

VR Track announced that the talks are intended to improve VR Track’s competitive ability with more efficient project management. The majority of the current managerial staff may be required to change jobs or face having their jobs terminated.

VR Track’s construction unit head Harri Lukkarinen says the company will do all it can to avoid implementing redundancies, preferring to offer the staff new positions in the company.

“They could either be more or less demanding than their current job. It is another matter if the new positions offered will be deemed acceptable to everyone,” he says.
