Wärstilä to build largest power plant in El Salvador

In a deal estimated at 240 million euros, Finnish power and marine technology company Wärtsilä will build a power plant that uses LNG-based natural gas in Acajutla, El Salvador. Completion is slated for 2018.

Power and marine technology company Wärtsilä has signed a deal for an order in Central America worth 240 million euros.

The power plant for Energia del Pacifico S.A., scheduled to open in 2018, will be El Salvador's largest power plant. It will also be the first to use LNG-based natural gas.

As Wärtisilä's technology requires zero water consumption, it is a major benefit for El Salvador, which has recently suffered from the worst droughts in close to 40 years.
