Foreign Minister Soini to visit USA

Foreign Minister Timo Soini leaves on an official visit to the USA at the beginning of February. Soini will meet the country’s foreign policy leadership and will join President Barack Obama at Washington’s annual National Prayer Breakfast.

Foreign Minister Timo Soini’s visit to the USA coincides with the National Prayer Breakfast, which takes place on the first Thursday in February every year. President Barack Obama will host the event, which is a series of meetings, luncheons and dinners.

Soini’s visit to the US capital will take place from February 1 – 4 and he will meet the country’s foreign policy leadership, members of Congress and think tank representatives. He will also pay a visit to the World Bank.

According to a release from the Foreign Ministry, Soini is expected to engage in talks in issues such as international security, the security situation in Europe, the crisis in Ukraine, the refugee situation and arctic cooperation.

The minister made his first official visit to the US last autumn. At the time he held talks US Foreign Secretary John Kerry and also had a brief opportunity to meet President Obama.
