Police to look at criminal complaint over Nokian Tyres

A law firm representing customers of Nokian Tyres has requested a police investigation into whether the company had committed fraud.  It emerged in February that the firm had systematically manipulated test results in the trade media by sending modified tyres to be tested.

Police have been asked to find out whether the current or former management of Nokian Tyres have acted in a criminal way by manipulating the results of media tests of tyres. Last February the highly-rated tyre company admitted it had been tampering with tire review test results for years.

Now Turre Legal, an Espoo law firm, is suing the company on behalf of some 250 disgruntled customers. They have also asked police to investigate whether management broke any laws in manipulating the tests by sending special ‘test grade’ tyres—which were not available to consumers.

The firm is still accepting new clients who want to sue Nokian Tyres, with the aim of securing a retroactive discount on tyres purchased.
