Rauma shipyard gets new 68 million euro order

Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) has signed a contract with the Danish shipping line Mols Linien for the construction of a 158 metre-long freight vehicle and passenger ferry. The deal is expected to provide a thousand work-years of employment at the shipyard in Rauma on Finland's southwest coast.

The RoPax (roll-on/roll-off passenger) vessel is to be completely constructed at the facility established by RMC in 2014 after STX closed its operations in Rauma. Late last year, the State of Finland also acquired a minority holding in the shipyard.

Designed and optimized for use on Mols Linien's route between Rønne on the Baltic island of Bornholm and Køge, just southwest of Copenhagen, main construction of the vessel is scheduled to start next spring. Plans call for the new ferry to be in operation by September 2018.
