Tragedy dominates much of this Monday's newspapers in Finland, as more details of the triple homicide that took place in Imatra on Saturday night are reported.
Tabloid Iltalehti has a minute-to-minute description of the events of the fateful evening. All three victims – one of whom was the Imatra City Council chair, the other two being local journalists – were known and liked in the south-eastern town. Crisis work continues to be at the disposal of saddened locals.
News of the shooting also made international headlines, IL reports. You can read our online article on the tragic events here.
Contemporary fashion and diverse chiefs
No one living in Finland will be able to miss the sparkling Indepdendence Day headlines in the country's newspapers on the eve of the big day. As expected, tabloids such as Ilta-Sanomat splash their front pages today with glamorous photographs, with IS even including a special Independence Day supplement with memories of bygone celebrations.
Memorable gaffs by invited celebrities include ice hockey mogul Hjallis Harkimo's trouble with stepping on the train of his wife's dress in 2000, which is also when MP Anni Sinnemäki arrived at the Presidential Palace in a rock-style t-shirt to the chagrin of fashion reporters.
Also in the IS spotlight are three female guests. Of these, Finns Party MP Tiina Elovaara's Mexican style dress is, perhaps interestingly to some, designed by Antonio Flores – the partner of 2012 presidential candidate Pekka Haavisto.
International is also a word used to describe the management of cell phone giant Nokia. In fact, Helsingin Sanomat goes as far as to say that the company's top brass are the most diverse group of bosses in the whole country.
All twelve members of Nokia's board of directors have international experience under their belts, and CEO Rajeev Suri is reported to have lived and worked in six different countries during his career.
All ten companies reviewed in HS can boast some measure of internationalism, with chiefs and board members having had dealings in a variety of countries on practically every continent in their line of work. All ten CEOs of the companies mentioned also happen to be male.
Niinistö the "face of Finland"
Men and women alike are represented in another list of people, this time in regional paper Aamulehti, which marches out a parade of faces that a survey says most conspicuously represent "Finnishness".
The interview survey conducted by Tietoykkönen Oy displays a wide range of celebrities as the top choices of those polled. Musicians, athletes, politicians, newscasters and a variety of other professions are seen in the double-spread piece; but president Sauli Niinistö is the number one choice among the 3,600 respondents.
Some attested symbols of Finnishness to make international waves in recent times include X-Factor hopeful Saara Aalto, fighter Makwan Amirkhani and author Sofi Oksanen.
The survey was conducted via a combination of phoners and a web questionnaire in November, 2016. A total of 300 respondents were surveyed from each of Finland's constituencies.
