High winds and rough seas have forced ferry operators Viking Line and Linda Line to cancel trips on their smaller, faster ships for a second day. The firms already cancelled trips on Monday due to sea conditions, and later in the day announced that the routes would be cancelled on Tuesday, as well.

Both of Viking Line's daily FSTR catamaran shuttles between Helsinki and Tallinn were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday due to high winds, but the ferry line's larger, slower ferries remain in operation.

Linda Line cancelled six departures from Helsinki and three from Tallinn on Monday and Tuesday.

The company says that it does not operate its ferries with conditions of wind speeds exceeding 15 metres per second with wave heights over three metres.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute's weather outlook for the Gulf of Finland anticipates wind speeds of up to 19 metres per second with waves measuring up to 2.5 metres.
