Nokian Tyres has announced the beginning of co-determination talks which could impact the employment contracts of up to 160 workers at its Heavy Tyres division in Nokia.
The restructuring effort is aimed at adapting production to suit the current market situation and the subsequent drop in demand, according to a press release.
"The possible adjustment measures considered by the company could be layoffs of Heavy Tyres factory employees and shortening of their daily and weekly working time," the statement said.
Preliminarily, the measures would come in the form of temporary furloughs for a maximum period of 90 days per employee, and will be carried out this year, the company said.
The company further noted that the process is expected to last for two weeks and will affect staff stationed at the company’s Nokia factory. Other possible measures include shortened daily and weekly working hours.
The Heavy Tyres division focuses on producing tyres for trucks and heavy machinery.
