The City of Helsinki is in the process of painting parking zones for rentable e-scooters in the city centre.
Altogether there will be 250 parking zones for the micro-mobility devices, 130 of which will occupy spots that were previously meant for cars. Work on the effort is expected to continue all of next week.
Use of the e-scooter parking zones is mandatory in the city centre. There will also be signs marking the parking spots.
Since the beginning of April, leaving a rented e-scooter outside of dedicated zones became a parking violation. Failure to comply with the regulations could result in a fine.
The restricted zone covers the Hesperia Esplanade and areas south of the Pitkäsilta bridge that connects Hakaniemi and Kruununhaka near the city centre. The western border runs along the Lauttasaari bridge.
Six rental firms operate in the restricted area: Voi, Tier, Lime, Ryde, Bird and Bolt. Each operator may have a maximum of 700 electric scooters in the restricted area.
