The Finnish passport was ranked as the joint third most powerful travel document in the world, according to the latest findings from Henley & Partners, a London-based consultancy firm.

This ranking, which was the same as last year, reflects the ability of Finnish passport holders to travel to a total of 189 countries without the need for a visa.

Taking the lead in the global mobility index were Singaporean passport holders, who enjoy visa-free access to 192 countries. Spain, Germany, and Italy shared the second spot with 190 countries open to their passport holders.

Finland, along with South Korea, Austria, Japan, Luxembourg, France and Sweden, ranked third on the index.

Among the other Nordic nations, Denmark secured fourth place in the index, followed by Norway in fifth, while Iceland claimed the tenth spot.

By contrast, holders of Afghan, Iraqi and Syrian passports have the hardest time crossing international borders; as they are only permitted visa-free travel to 27, 29 and 30 countries respectively.

The Global Passport Ranking index evaluates 199 different passports and 227 different destinations to determine passport holders' ease of travel. The rankings are based on the number of countries a passport holder can visit without a visa.
