Helsinki police have opened a preliminary investigation into the vandalism of the Turkish Embassy that occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
A smoke cartridge and balloons filled with paint or dye were thrown at the embassy, according to the lead investigator, Senior Detective Superintendent Jari Koski.
That type of smoke cartridge is used by paintball hobbyists. Police said the incident did not pose a danger, no fire was involved and not a question of an explosive device.
Police are in the process of interviewing possible suspects. The police said they have information that an activist group has claimed responsibility for the crime.
The incident was first reported to rescue services at about 4:30pm on Wednesday.
