Finland's eastern border with Russia is set to remain closed for the time being.

On Wednesday, Finnish news agency STT reported confirmation that the government is set to decide to keep current closures in place.

Also on Wednesday, the Finnish government released the agenda for Thursday's general session. It states that a decision will be made on border closures and the centralisation of international protection applications, meaning that asylum seekers will only be able to seek entry at one or a few border crossing points.

The current decision, last revisited on 8 February, expires on 14 April.

At present, applications for international protection cannot be made at the land border crossings between Finland and Russia due to the border closure.

Finland closed its eastern border with Russia in December due to an influx of undocumented migrants, which Finnish officials said were coordinated by Russian officials.
