More Northern Lights on the way

There's a good chance of catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights on Saturday night.

Aurora Borealis, typically limited to northern parts of Finland, illuminated skies in southern Finland on Friday night.

More bright displays are likely in store for Finland on Saturday night, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), which said the light phenomenon will be visible in the south and southeast.

A series of strong solar flares are reaching Earth over the weekend, causing massive geomagnetic storms and Northern Lights visible throughout Finland.

Over the past few days, the Sun has experienced several strong solar flares and eruptions of its corona — the gas ring surrounding the Sun — causing rare geomagnetic activity on Earth.
